Carlin is a dietician and passionate cook. Her husband, Claudio, is a talented photographer. Together they form a dynamic duo nourished by the freedom of the outdoors — surfing rivers, chasing powder and riding trails in their Canadian playground. Carlin’s food and Claudio’s photos both capture the wild essence that fuels their lifestyle and sustains their stoke.

Food, Fire, Freedom

He grew up in Austria. She grew up in rural Alberta. They met on a surf retreat in South Africa. They married on a small plot of land.

Meet Carlin and Claudio. A Canadian couple fueled by freedom, adventure, and really good food cooked in beautiful places.

Carlin is a dietician with a passion for inspiring people to find balance and happiness through food. Her husband, Claudio, is a photographer with a sharp eye for composition and a love for capturing moments of joy through the lens.

Together they’ve carved a life out for themselves in Alberta, Canada chasing the things they love, with a pile of gear to do it – fishing, skiing, mountain biking and yup, even surfing.

Never settling for less, their love forms the foundation for a life well lived among the mountains. Their end goal? To do what they want, when they want, with a community of people around them to learn from and grow with.

Carlin

Carlin found baking at a young age with her easy bake oven. Over the years, her interest in cooking evolved, and as she approached college she looked to combine her love of biology and preparing food.

Growing up, her parents instilled in her a balanced approach towards food. With her grassroots upbringing, when she left home for college she was surprised to discover an entirely new language and approach some people had towards food, dieting and body image. Some of it was negative, inaccurate or viewed from the wrong perspective. Since then, she’s sought to help change this.

Although she’s a dietician, she promises she’s not the food police. She still loves cinnamon rolls. Her goal is to help people strike a healthy balance and approach to eating. To Carlin, food doesn’t just sustain our physical bodies, it enriches our spiritual beings, too.

Eating is a fundamental part of life, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Connecting over food is an time-honored way to get to know other people, a good compass to find your tribe.

Cooking is a very personal journey to Carlin, and it combines many of the things she loves. Bringing people together over a shared meal is all-important to her.

Claudio

Claudio was born on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. He grew up with a revolving roster of sports that kept him active and outside. Whether it was soccer, biking or skiing there was always something to do. He eventually relocated to Germany where he lived for 10 years. His years engrossed in the momentum of sports inspired him to study kinesiology in college.

After college he went on to become a ski instructor. He began to bring a camera along with him because he enjoyed shooting photos of his buddies skiing big mountain lines on their days off.

Once off the slopes and relaxing, he’d share with his friends the images from earlier in the day. He loved seeing the reactions of his buddies from the captured memories of their day in the mountains. These rewards continue to inspire him.

He's passionate about capturing and reliving memories and inspiring people to get outdoors through his work. He also loves to support people (and brands) growing their businesses in authentic ways through sharing their story and stoke.

Love Evolves

Carlin cooks. Claudio shoots. Each of them have made careers for themselves that allow them to live a life of freedom. But it shouldn’t be confused with escapism.

Freedom is knowing who you are, what you value, what you want in life and being able to pursue that. For them, it’s a simple life, great food shared with friends, cold beer, opportunities for adventure, and a roaring fire.

"Cooking on the road doesn't have to mean spending hours over a fire—it’s about enjoying good food in a way that suits your journey."

But they have the clarity of mind and vision to realize that this lifestyle may not be for everyone, nor should it be expected. They don’t preach the dogma of “following your dreams.” They admit that a more traditional 9 to 5 job is practical for most people, and despite what influencers say, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Their advice for anyone seeking to march to a different beat is to give yourself grace. Start small and surround yourself with positive people who can help. It’s OK to not have it all figured out; in fact it’s perfectly normal. Their advice: don’t wish for someone else’s life because you rarely get to see the entire picture of what goes on behind the scenes. Be yourself.

"Our favorite way to escape the busyness of life is simply to be in nature, embracing the world around us and finding peace."

Moving Forward

Carlin wants to make a campfire cooking-inspired cookbook. Claudio wants a surf shack on the beach. Meanwhile, they’re perfectly happy where they are right now. A selfless humility guides their actions. Their home in Canada provides endless opportunities for exploration, inspiration, and new avenues for growth.

Their lifestyle continues to lead them toward their goals and provides a compass their instincts trust, capturing beauty and eating great meals along the way. Keep up with their journey @carlin_frimmel
